Invest Saint Lucia Attended the Caribbean Hotel & Resort Investment Summit (CHRIS)

Invest Saint Lucia (ISL) attended the Caribbean Hotel & Resort Investment Summit (CHRIS) from May 16 -17, 2022, held at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Hollywood, Florida.

CHRIS continues to prove itself as one of the leading and most noteworthy hotel investment conferences in the region, bringing together many industry experts, lenders, developers, investors, decision-makers, and regional and international audiences. It provides a fantastic networking opportunity with an array of panels and sessions led by hotel and finance industry experts.

In keeping with its mandate to catalyze the islandโ€™s inward investment potential and increase investment flows, Invest Saint Lucia participated in two speaking engagements. Senior Investment Services Officer, Mr. Philbert Lubrin, delivered a country presentation focused on Saint Luciaโ€™s tourism outlook, tourism recovery statistics, and why the island is an ideal tourism investment location. Hon. Dr. Ernest Hilaire, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism, Investment, Creative Industries, Culture, and Information participated in a Views from Heads of Government Panel, highlighting the islandโ€™s tourism outlook and recovery strategy.

Whilst addressing the audience, Dr. Hilaire stated that the pandemic has demonstrated that Saint Lucia as a destination needs to reimagine its tourism industry, establishing its long-term goals and vision for the direction of the industry.

โ€œWe need to construct a tourism industry that is inclusive and sustainable with citizens and communities driving and promoting authentic experiences for our visitors,โ€ he remarked. โ€œTherefore, in doing so we need to be able to clearly establish the framework in which this will happen. As we recover, we have sought to find the right balance between the health and safety environment that need to exist.โ€

During the two-day conference, ISLโ€™s Investment Officers conducted various meetings on ease of doing business, government incentives, country policy on development and investment, and key tourism investment opportunities on island.
