As part of activities for Business Month, the Department of Commerce, International Trade, Investment, Enterprise Development, and Consumer Affairs held the third annual Finance and Equity Symposium, earlier this week.

The symposium targeted business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) who were enlightened on the various equity and financing options available to them, especially given the constraints faced by MSMEs in accessing needed capital.

Communications Officer within the Department of Commerce, Lydia Dariah, believes that the Finance and Equity Symposium is in keeping with the Department’s mandate to provide training and consultation to entrepreneurs as a means of promoting the sustainable growth of the MSME sector.

“The MSME Finance and Equity Symposium will bring together a cadre of lenders and investors who will be presenting on various areas of finance. Since the launch of Business Month in 2015, the department has been hosting this symposium which has become quite popular during Business Month,” Ms. Dariah said.

The Finance and Equity Symposium, which was held on November 8 at the Golden Palm Events Centre, covered topics such as Performance Indicators for Business Success; Solving Your Financing Needs; Financial Management Made Easy through Technology; and the Eastern Caribbean Partial Credit Guarantee Fund. The event also served as an avenue for networking among MSMEs, lenders and investors, in the hope of fostering better understanding among all parties, thereby increasing the opportunity to access the available financial products and services.

Business Month activities continue this week with the launch of Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) organized by the St. Lucia Chamber of Commerce. Other youth-oriented activities include a YES X Talk by the National Youth Council (NYC) and a discourse on the importance of a peace building nation by the Commonwealth Youth Peace Ambassadors Network (CYPAN).
